横看成岭侧成峰，
远近高低各不同。
不识庐山真面目，
只缘身在此山中。
Written on the Walls of Westwood Abbey
Looking straight or from the side,
Cliffs narrow and hills wide;
Viewed afar or at a stone’s throw,
Peaks atop and valleys below.
You miss Mt Lu’s real splendor
Glowing with all its grandeur,
As you’re lost trudging each height,
And awed by every curious sight.

苏东坡的诗四行，我的英文翻译出了八行，当然不满意，但觉得很难用四行英文表达原诗的意思
我的译法英语叫poetic translation，如果用literal translation ，可以用四行英文表达。比方：
Looking horizontally they are hills; by the side, peaks
From far or near, top or bottom, they all look different
You can never tell the true face of Mount Lu
As long as you are physically in the same mountain
四行目的达到了，却不是诗了。
可以的。原来有看过专门翻译中国古诗的，也绝然不是word by word
