You don't need to take TOEFL if you took SAT and/or ACT, if you want to go to top school, extra curricular activity is very, very important (any sports, volunteer activity), one of my cousins was born in U.S. had very high GPA, but didn't participate in much school activities, he only got into a state school.

well um, I had to take TOEFL and SAT both when I applied for schools in 11th grade, because, as I said, I'd only been living in the states for 3 years at that time. SAT doesn't replace TOEFL if English is not your native language.

I guess schools are different. I am lucky that I didn't need to take the TOEFL at all when i applied to college.
