Wang Tao, a young artist born in Ji Nan, graduated from the College of Arts and Crafts .He has the junior college-level education. Now, he is a member of Folk Artists Association of Shan Dong province and serving as the assistant president of Ji Nan Paper-cut Institute.
  He is the son of a paper-cut family, so the passion for the scissor-cut art existed as early as his childhood. Till now, Mr. Wang has designed and created quantities of excellent works. Among them, the Miniature Paper-cut Art and the Paper cuttings of the Han Fossil deserve the honor as China’s unique skill. These masterpieces have been reported for many times by domestic media.
   During the year of 2003, a set of Mao Zedong-theme paper-cut Wang Tao shaped was reported by People’s Daily and various media in Ji Nan. The exhibition of Wang Tao’s paper-cut art, hosted by Ji Nan Bureau of Culture, gained agreeable appreciates from leaders of governments and many famous artists. General Shao Hua and Professor Mao Yuxin, the family members of Mao Zedong , were very excited when they saw the Mao Zedong-theme set .And then they accepted it delightfully and holily. General Shao also encouraged Wang Tao by inscribing the following words, try hard to continue fostering and enhancing folk arts. Finally they took a photo as a souvenir.
   In February 2004, Ji Nan Department of Propaganda hosted a Paper cuttings competition with the topic, to welcome the Asian Cup and to establish the civilized city. In this significant event, Wang Tao was invited as the evaluation committee member. The host entrusted him to create a portrait scissor-cut for Ji Xianlin, the father of the eastern culture study, and presented it as a birthday gift to Mr. Ji. After a few months, Wang Tao designed and shaped a set for the hundredth birthday of Deng Xiaoping on Aug 22. Further more, the whole set was collected as the first folk art of Ji Nan by Ji Nan Archives Department. In addition to that, Mr. Wang also made the paper portraits for famous athletes, such as Du Li, Liu Chunhong and Tang Gonghong. Soon later, these works were selected into the Album of Shan Dong Farmers’ Pictures.
  At the very beginning of 2006, his cuttings won the first prize on the Folk Arts Exhibition, held by Ji Nan Department of Propaganda and Bureau of Culture. And the May of this year saw that Wang Tao was appointed as an art teacher by the Community Science Popularization University in the center district of Ji Nan. Soon the Shan Dong Normal University and Shan Dong University both invited him to be the visiting professor of folk art in June, so that he could introduce the Chinese traditional paper-cut art to the foreign students and friends. His works have been collected by many guests from different countries. In this year, his beautiful cuts were also showed in the First Culture Product Exhibition.
  Ji Nan city TV station once made a topic program about Wang Tao’s paper cuttings, and the action made this traditional skill popularized among citizens of Ji Nan.
