wa, so many PPMMs are coming. looking forward to seeing you all
I have stayed in Chicago for more than 5 years. But I am not there anymore.
If you wanna go to Chinatown to try out some food, you can check it out at
http://www.chicagochinatown.com/dining.html
I would recommend Joy Yee's Noodle Shop (祖舆always long line, bubble tea, smoothie are pretty good), Penang for Malasian food, phoenix for dim sum (there is one store serves for taiwan food right below it, forget the name, cute waiter), Saint Anna Bakey & Cafe (圣安娜, sponge cake, fruit cake etc.). Lao Sze Chuan is just ok for me (coz I am from sichuan and I can make better dishes than them, hehe show off).
As for the shopping, you can go shopping on magnificent mile if you stay in downtown. Also a lot of stores inside watertower place like BR, Gap, A&F, BBW, VS, etc. Don't forget the department stores like Macy's, Nordstrom, NM, SAKs.
My favorite thing shoppig on Michigan Ave is to get myself Chicago's famous popcorn in caremel (http://www.garrettpopcorn.com/; 670 N Michigan Ave Chicago, IL 60611). I remember I stayed in the line like more than one hour in cold winter to just get some popcorn. I must be crazy about that. The garrett store on michigan ave. is always popular. You can go to the nearest one on state street and Randolph (26 West Randolph
Chicago, IL 60601).
Woodfield mall (Chicago's best mall) and Aurora outlet are also good places to shop if you have a car.
If you would like to treat yourself a glass of cocktail while sightseeing the beautiful skyline of the city, be sure to check out the bar on the 96th floor of John Hancock center (it's the bar for the Signature Room restaurant). The most beautiful scene is actually from the lady's bathroom. Don't miss that out.
Have fun in Chicago, Girls...
Agree about the shopping and the sightseeing.
But for the food, I will recommend the following:
For Northern food: 31st $ Halsted, Bei3 Guo2 Xiao3 Chi1, don’t' know it English name.
For Dim Sum: of course go to First Soup (Chinese into English), don’t' know its English name either, just near by Lao Sze Chuan. And there is Shui Wah. Both are in
Chinatown Square.I will NEVER go to JOYEE in , because their service is SUCK, that food is small and expensive. But they Do have lots of choice. Seriously, no Chinatown people go there...I will highly recommend to go to JOYEE at Halsted, just about 10 mins drive from , and very close to UIC. Dish is bigger, room is bigger, and service is much much better.
"There is one store serves for food" is Called Saint Alps'(something like that), but their drink are very expensive. It is originally from TW, but there are/were lots of branch in HK, or or SZ... it is a good place to chat. The rice comb which is $7.50 is worthy to try...Just don’t ONLY order the bubble milk tea there. It charges you $4 when other places charge you less and give you a much bigger drink.
Oh, the cute waiter you talk about is alike zizi(zhou yu ming, or that kind style , right?) I think that is him, but he left already.
Saint Anna Bakey is good but not the best in Chicago Chinatown, it is more famous because it is the first one opened in square. You also can try some bakery in main street -- Wentworth.
above .. just my throught and suggestion,
you know, people taste are different, i mean to the food.
各大department store,saks,neiman marcus, bloomingdales,norstrom, barneys new york,便宜一点的macys,lord and taylor,够你逛个大半天了。

lord and taylor in Water tower is closing at the end of march..
