最近几年是不错,不过有朋友工作时间长的说IT boom的那几年他们反而不太好。不好的时候是什么样子的呢?
总觉得天下没有免费的午餐,身边不少不同领域background, 学校也中等的master进了JS等公司,有的做FA, 有的做quant,现在收入似乎也可以。入门门槛也不算高,有个phd进去更不太难了。在网上听别人说什么几年几年之后,几十几十万,甚至百万都进了口袋。唉,想想其他的专业,就算医生,lawyer这些professional, 读那么多年花那么多钱,最后也没人家挣的多,还累的和什么似的。
不过我自己倒是踏实一人,最讨厌跟风。所以看着周围的人是个人都想转fianance, 想想这也不太符合客观规律,就有了疑惑了。
oh, who said that...? i may have a math phd dregree in one year but now i want to switch to medical field.. i am having great great interest in a MD.... pls, pls dont tell me finance people earns more...

I'm in the money management industry. My experience is that there are a large number of people at the bottom layer, making just professional salaries. But some can make really big bucks
- If you can consistantly beat the market
- If you can gather assets from a large network of high networth investors
- Some investment banking
- If you are good at manipulating people and climbing the corporate ladder
I know CFAs with 10+ year experience making less than $100k. I also know sales guys with not much knowledge but know a lot of rich clients that get paid millions a year.
My conclusion: choose career based on your interest. Otherwise if you don't get the compensation you dreamed of, it can be really disppointing.
FOLLOW YOUR HEART.
And be prepared that you probably will be asked to do the numbers and prepare reports, but when it's time to do presentations to show off the results, you might be pushed aside because you are not the best English speaker in the company. (By definition, you never will be.)
