sorry, I cannot type chinese on this machine.  I have a very comfortable job, 40hrs a week, next year I will have 4 weeks of vacation, pay is pretty good.  Of course the work is not so challenging, but then again I have a three-years old boy, so i want to focus more time and engergy on him.  Today I just got a call from my ex-colleague(senior manager in big 4).  His client needs a director and wants him to recommend one.  He wants me to give it a try.  The location is almost the same as my current job, the work will be very challenging, doing a lot of M&A planning, which I don't have.  The pay is about 40% more and with stock option.  Should I go there?  I am sure I will not enjoy the 40 hrs a week anymore.  My current job is very stable.  The other company is just publically traded, but a little smaller.

If you enjoy your current situation a lot, why bother to change? I would stay put.

set ur priority first.

Considering tax, the salary increase may not be actually that attractive. And money can't buy happiness/family harmony.

Will you be happy with the new job? Will you like the environment/people in the new company?

How much time do you want to spend with your family?

Consider the opportunity cost of having the new job. What would you gain from the new position and what would you have to sacrifice to accept the job? What are your career goals? Three-years from now? Five-years from now? These are all relevant questions to be put on the table before you make a decision.

I like this MM's questions. In addition, I know M&A is stressful yet rewarding. One of my best friends works in this industry with 10-12 hours a day. She said she will work for non-profit once she has a baby. But she also told me this is one of the hottest area in finance. My suggestion is: ask for insiders' info, gather as much as possible and make your decision.

I think I will like the work better since I can learn so much more and my career path will be totally different afterwards.  On the other hand, i have a very comfortable job with the best boss.  He just told me that I will get a promotion next year at my mid-year review.  I used to work for big 4, so I just cannot imagine working 70-80 hrs/week again.  However, I think the director postion will be somewhere in between in term of the hours.  plan to gather more info of the job then decide... sometimes I think connection does play an important role.  My friend knows I don't have 20 yrs of working experience, so they will not expect me to know everything.  What  he told them is I am a fast learner and hard worker, he and his partner can help me when I need anything at the new place. thanks for all the suggestion...

If you are a career oriented woman, this opportunity definitely sounds appealing! Learning more, being able to expand your horizon, and make yourself more well rounded is something a career focused individual should always consider when an opportunity is presented to you.

Good luck to you and your decision, whatever it may be. No need to work 70-80 hrs a week though. That is just insane. Balance work and family, you will be a successful in both your personal and professional lives.
