Through in-class exercises, short assigned readings, and homework prompts, students experiment with new styles and forms, working toward the development of their own unique voice (and a portfolio of work to submit to writing contests, like Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards, New York Times Writing Contest etc). The curriculum is tailored to each group's specific interests and skills, but typically includes poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction projects, and lessons on craft elements including point of view, character, imagery. and plot structure.
