More important is the aesthetic outcome.
For the upper middle tooth, the shape of gums line is very important. Also, the space between the implant and the next teeth is critical too.
Both the gum line shape and the space management are up to how much bone resorption can be prevented.
For this reason, for the cases like yours, immediate extraction and immediate placement of implant and restoration is highly recommended. The critical bone volume can be kept as much as possible.
If your doctor cannot do it, find another one.
