Pictures about Beijing Olympics--1

I've finally got somthing serious to do. Today I saw those amazing pictures about the Beijing Olympics from here:

 http://cache.tianya.cn/publicforum/content/funinfo/1/1222956.shtml
and here:
http://www.huaren.us/dispbbs.asp?boardid=335&Id=475644

It's just that it's in Chinese. I thought it would be a shame if they cannot be shared with many, many more people who sometimes may be a little curious about what is going on there. So I have decided to make captions and my personal comments about these pictures, mostly taken by volunteers who work there, and some from Chinese forums or websites.
I went to Beijing for college. Four years there and I came to Chicago, three years till now. I hope that I can have a different take from the main stream media both in and out of China, and I will try my best to introduce what the people, normal people in Bejing see and feel.
I will get help from a couple of friends, Chinese and American. But I ask for more help to translate and comment on these pictures. You are welcome to quote my work as you like, show it to your friends if it's any good. I hope you can correct anything and give me advice. Patronize me. I find it interesting when people do that. :)
Today is only a trial, to introduce a little bit about the Olympics village. I'll update everyday, and I'm sure there are a huge amount to come. That's why I need help to translate. I'm eager to share the joy and worries of my homeland as a host for the first time.
The coming up will be about life in the village, how people bring their culture to Beijing and how Beijing showcases her heritage. The people, sports stars, volunteers, mascots. The places, Beijing, Qingdao (or Tsingdao), the Bird Nest, Water Cube, etc. Athletes and audience will be further covered during the Games.

Being a science student who has only lived in the States for three years, I have lost my hand on Chinese and still pretty clumsy in English. So any feedback is good feedback.

Here we go. I've only been able to do a little thing about food in the village:

What can satisfy you more than a good meal? Australian team nutritionist Louise Burke was very impressed with the food service. I have to say he and everyone else has a good taste, for 600 authentic roasted Peking ducks are served everyday. Without doubt, the roasted duck is literarily the hottest one in the village.

Oh you want some, too? No sorry, these are the last slices. I have to knock over some skinny gymnasts to get the duck. It's no good for them. They shouldn't eat too much in the first place.

There are over 200 chefs and cooks serving the athletes and the media. The food includes Asian, , international (what is it?  maybe from the bacon and cheese aisle?) and Arabic cuisines. Calories are provided for each dish, as well as recommended diets for the athletes to recharge.
Food safety is a big issue. A tracking system is established so that when a person swipes the card to purchase food, what he or she eats, nutrition facts, ingredients, where it has been processed and distributed, even the place where the produce was from, are all kept in the system. It sounds paranoiac, but as a CNN contributer says, "a little bit of paranoia is normal in Olympics". I know she is talking about the dirty politics, but it applies to stir-fried rice and pizzas, too.
On the first day, 3000 kilograms of stir-fried rice was consumed. Bon Appetit, and watch out your figure!!

Desserts--looks like fruits with rice cakes, healthy healthy. It reminds me of my college cafeteria. It looks exactly the same!

Mini mooncakes, anyone? Mid-autumn (or Moon) Festival near, it's so nostalgic. Besides, they are high in protein and low in fat. Recommended for gymnasts. Fillings include eggyolk, red bean, coconut.
