For more than 40 years, the trees along North Michigan Avenue have been illuminated to signal the official start of the holiday season in Chicago. Witness the magical lighting of more than one million white lights along North Michigan Avenue from Oak Street to Wacker Drive, culminating in a magnificent fireworks show over the Chicago River. After you enjoy the day’s activities, return to The Magnificent Mile to create more holiday memories! This day of family fun is detailed below.
11:00 a.m. | Enjoy “Disney's Magical Celebration” with Walt Disney World characters live in Chicago! 25-minute stage show. |
11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. | Warm up at the WGN Winter Walk featuring carolers, cheesecake decorating, a holiday petting zoo, children’s activities, and much more. Visit the Southwest Airlines Booth, make a donation to the Salvation Army and receive a mitten ornament to hang on the Southwest Airlines Mitten Tree. |
11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. | Visit the Eli’s Tent at the Winter Walk and enjoy free mini cheesecake slice decorating for kids. Catch a glimpse of the official Lights Festival Cake! Help Eli’s support the Greater Chicago Food Depository by bringing a non-perishable food donation to the Eli’s Tent and receive a free slice of cheesecake (one slice per person please). |
12:00 p.m. | Come hear The NOGGLER Guuggenmusig, straight from Lucerne, Switzerland, as they perform all of our American and Swiss favorites. |
12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. | The InterContinental Chicago chefs will thrill onlookers with live ice carving and gingerbread house assembly and decoration! |
1:00 p.m. | Enjoy “Disney's Magical Celebration” with Walt Disney World characters live in Chicago! 25-minute stage show. |
2:00 p.m. | Come hear The NOGGLER Guuggenmusig, straight from Lucerne, Switzerland, as they perform all of our American and Swiss favorites. |
3:00 p.m. | Enjoy “Disney's Magical Celebration” with Walt Disney World characters live in Chicago! 25-minute stage show. |
5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. | Join in the fun before the procession begins! Enjoy live holiday street entertainment all along the Avenue as dance troupes, choirs, tumblers and more perform while you wait for the lighting procession to begin. |
6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. | Mickey Mouse, as master of ceremonies, leads the illumination of more than one million lights in The Magnificent Mile district to officially start the holiday season in Chicago! |
6:55 p.m. | Don’t miss a spectacular fireworks display over the Chicago River after The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival procession! |
7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. | Get a head start on your holiday shopping with extended shopping hours at participating Magnificent Mile stores! Consider dining downtown or staying at one of our magnificent hotels. |
