just my two cents...
some very unique looking stuff may get us fall in love at the first sight. yet as we all know, our preferences and tastes may change over time. as a result we may quite often find ourselves regretting on something we bought several years ago...

so my suggestions are:
1 to make sure that at this moment in time, you really love it;
2 to give a little thought on how much you would love it 5 years down the road --- a kinda self-anticipation bah :-)
3 to pay attention to friends' comments --- most of us don't want to buy something that only I love but others don't, as other people's explicite or implicit attitude/comments could very much affect our emotional feeling to the stuff. in this sense, we wanna buy something that will not only satisfy my own preferences and tastes, but also be liked and accepted by our friends.
4 to shop around a little bit more and do more research and comparison. you may find that there are something within the so-called safe range that could still satisfy your preferences and tastes.
(here 'safe' is not in its functional or physical sense; it is meant to say that most people would be comfortable and acceptable with it)
