I watched that clip. I think what Shawn said there is totally OK in terms of no hurting Chinese people's feeling. She didn't say anything for sure about the underage issue. No conclusion, no complaint, no blame. She just followed Letterman's cue and expressed her own feelings in a careful and smart way.

Even in the worse possible cases, we just shouldn't expect too much from an American athlete. No matter how much we like her and how nice we think she's to China, the bottom line is she's American and she'll always be on the US side. Based on the Americans' general attitude toward China, I'd say Shawn did a pretty decent job in there, more decent than her "underaged" peer.
