Which level of graduate study are you interested in? I guess the orientations for Ph.D level and Master level are a little bit different.

When you say 新闻学, is it journalism? and 传播学 for communication?

I know people from both departments. As far as I know, more international students major in communication. Again, the detailed differences would depends on what kind of degree you are seeking. For phd in journalism, it is very theoretical.

Regarding trasfering to other majors----you can trasnfer to any major you want as long as you get admitted. Some majors might require some prerequisites. Thus be careful when you make a decision.
